Tranche 3 Leaving Certificate subjects will be introduced to the curriculum for all schools in September 2027. A phased consultation process begins with Leaving Certificate Computer Science. Consultation on this draft specification runs until 26th November 2025.

Tranche 3 Senior Cycle subjects for redevelopment

As part of the redevelopment of senior cycle, the Tranche 3 subjects will be introduced to the curriculum for all schools in September 2027. The subjects include Agricultural Science, Computer Science, Design and Communications Graphics, History, Home Economics, Mathematics, Music, and Physics and Chemistry. The subjects will be available for consultation on a phased basis from October 2025 to April 2026. The draft specification for Computer Science has been published for public consultation. The consultation runs from Wednesday, 1st October 2025 until Wednesday, 26th November 2025.

The consultation involves in-depth engagement with a wide variety of stakeholders across Ireland. As part of this, NCCA has also invited schools offering LC Computer Science to participate in focus groups involving teachers, students and school leaders. 

We invite you to get involved and have your say on the draft specification. If you are responding as an individual you can complete the online survey. If you are responding on behalf of an organisation, please complete the online submission form and return to scconsultations@ncca.ie before November 26th at 5pm.Or, you might like to attend the public consultation event in TUS, Athlone on Tuesday, 11th of November 2025. Applications for this event close on 6th of November 2025 at 5pm and places are limited. Attendees will be contacted by email after the deadline.
The feedback from this consultation will help to inform the work of the Development Group for Computer Science in finalising the specification.
